CIMRex Campaign 2019: Saturday, 2nd March 2019

By TomLav | March 2, 2019 - 20:10

Saturday, 2nd March 2019, Iceland

The CIMRex campaign has officially started.

The team is gathered in Akureyri, Iceland where we were greeted this morning with snowfall and a Christmas like feeling in this very picturesque town.

Akureyri early morning on Saturday 2 March 2019.

Since yesterday everyone is very busy mounting all the instrumentation on the Norlandair Twin-Otter, and below shows the first installation picture of the fully refurbished HUTRAD2.0 (see an earlier post for a description of HUTRAD2.0).

HUTRAD2.0 mounted and the Finnish team making system tests.

DTU’s team on their side have been busy mounting the GPA and INS systems and very importantly, preparing the IR and optical cameras that will be mounted on the belly of the plane, in order for the images to be collocated with the data from the HUTARD2.0 radiometer.

IR camera (loan from Gunnar Spreen, Univ. Bremen) and the GoPro cameras (one tilted, the other nadir viewing)

The plan so far is to finish all the last checks by tomorrow morning and make the test flight in the afternoon, weather allowing.

More to come so keep posted.
