A new paper was published at JGR: Oceans concerning the CIMR mission.
The paper shows a first simplified end-to-end simulation of the CIMR mission. The simulation included important processes and input parameters, such as test geophysical datasets, forward models, an instrument simulator, and retrieval algorithms to derive the key mission geophysical products. The forward modelling was tested by producing brightness temperatures from a few global scenes, and comparing them with observations of the open ocean and sea ice from current instruments operating at similar frequencies. The simulated observations were then inverted to retrieve Sea Ice Concentration (SIC), Sea Surface Temperature (SST), and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS), followed by a discussion of the retrieval performance to showcase the enhanced retrieval precisions and spatial resolutions expected from CMIR.
